The Showstoppers mark their fifth anniversary at Edinburgh Festival with five special matinees featuring all the ingenuity and innovation of their musical comedy improvisation, in a format suitable for all ages and shoe sizes. The unmissable troupe will be improvising a total of 28 brand new musicals based on audience suggestions in Edinburgh - see this listing for their nightly 11pm shows.

The conceit of the show remains that a writer has just one night to create a hit show to impress his producer. Stuck for ideas, he takes audience suggestions for a title, storylines and musical styles that they’d like to see in the show. The Showstoppers then create a musical from scratch based around those suggestions. Utterly unpredictable, frequently side-splittingly funny and featuring dazzling dance routines and catchy melodies.

The Showstoppers tour nationally, play regular London residencies in the West End and have enjoyed four sell-out Edinburgh Fringe seasons. Their first BBC Radio 4 series of six special 30 minute improvised musicals was broadcast in 2011. This format was created by Sticking Place Artistic Director Adam Meggido and veteran improviser Dylan Emery, both of whom worked closely with the late, great theatre maverick, Ken Campbell.

The Showstoppers are: Chris Ash, Duncan Walsh Atkins, Alex Atty, Ruth Bratt, Sam Cable, Julie Clare, Dylan Emery, Pippa Evans, Sean McCann, Adam Meggido, Philip Pellew, David Reed, Oliver Senton, Lucy Trodd & Sarah Louise Young.
